چکیده
Engineering structures built on soft and compressible soils are often subjected to a long-lasting consolidation settlement. It is difficult achieve an acceptable level of during the first few years/days operation. Similarly, culvert structure provided at station km 159 + 112 Awash-Kombolcha-Hara Gebeya Railway Project, Ethiopia, was situated along route traversing clay ground significant thickness. For intention reducing time lessening precarious impact postconstruction settlement, treated with preloading prefabricated vertical drains. However, currently undergoing settlement varying magnitudes. The deformation site monitored using gauges installed site. Monitoring continued for 120 days track extent because environmental technical factors like calibration alignment errors, instrument readings may be exposed uncertainties, which probably affect safety structure. Hence, study primarily aimed evaluating field performance period through numerical analysis comparing result monitoring data. critical effect wick drain some key parameters (fill thickness spacing) were also scrutinized. Finite element-based modeling conducted by 2D GeoStudio/SigmaW package, Modified Cam Clay Constitutive model adopted. revealed that finite element has good agreement data only 0.0305 m maximum deviation in remained greater majority time. can inferred granular fill spacing impacting

Three-Dimensional Analysis of Soft Soil Consolidation improved by Prefabricated Vertical Drains
A system of prefabricated vertical drains (PVDs) with a surcharge load is an effective method for accelerating soil consolidation by promoting radial flow. This study presents a three-dimensional (3D) finite element model for soft soil improved by a single drain. In the finite element analysis, the actual rectangular PVD cross-section is considered, and the equivalent drain diameter is then bac...
متن کاملPerformance of Composite and Monolithic Prefabricated Vertical Drains
With the increasing use ofprefabricated vertical drains in the improvement of soft clay there are many types of these drains, both composite (with geotextile wrapping) and monolithic (without geotextile wrapping), available in Malaysia. Some engineers have the impression that all drains perform satisfactorily. However, case studies have shown that there are cases where vertical drains failed to...
متن کاملImproving Engineering Properties of Soft Soil Using Preloading and Prefabricated Vertical Drains
Preloading and Prefabricated Vertical Drains (PVD) is a ground improvement technique used to increase the consolidation process of clayey soils by means of shortening the drainage path. This paper discusses a case study of a road construction where a part of road alignment goes through a low laying water logged area. Primary consolidation of soft clay will continue for longer period of time aft...
متن کاملSettlements and Consolidation Rates under Embankments in a Soft Soil with Vertical Drains
In this paper, a study was carried out in order to estimate settlements and consolidation rates under embankments constructed on Moroccan soft soils. Settlement measurements in several embankments in High Speed Railway project between two Moroccan cities, Tangier and Assilah, were analyzed. The objective of this study is to estimate settlement values and settlement rates, with sufficient prec...
